Riddle Me This...

To everyone who voted on my poll posted about the reason you entered the field of Radiography, thank you! You have all made my assignment much easier by allowing me to follow up here.

  1. I voted salary because my other reasons were not listed and at the end of the day, I'm not talented enough that I can afford to live off what I truly love in life: motorcycle racing.

I was working in a hospital already so your other choices were a given for me.. The two main reasons I chose Radiography are 1) based on my observations, the folks in this field are generally less stressed than nurses or doctors.... and 2) the job still provides enough of a challenge that (hopefully) I'll stay interested in it for a long time.

    So far so good.

  3. Thank you for your honesty... I've known several motocross enthusiasts who were also RT's and they seemed to be able to afford all sorts of toys that their salaries allotted for. I hope it continues to live up to your expectations; and thanks for voting!

  5. I voted that I didn't know what I was getting myself in to. Which was mainly true. We weren't required to do a job shadow or anything and I choose to be an RT based on 1.) the healthcare programs offered with in an hour of my house 2.) the pay 3.) the limited body fluid contact.

But the first day of class I was like holy crap we're going to have radiation exposure?!?!? And we have to move broken bones?

I giggle now when I think about how I felt 2 years ago....I'm very glad I ended up in this career field, and I'm glad I went for this instead of radiation therapy (it was my first choice, but I missed the application deadline and didn't want to wait a full year to apply to something).

  7. There always seems to be a large percentage of our first-semester students, and even the mass public who think we just slap a body part on top of a cassette and push a button all day. I love hearing stories of peoples' reactions to what we actually do. I'm glad you stuck with it... there's no better field!

  9. Getting into this more than a year later. A former IT manager who'd outsourced his peoples' jobs to India got into the program a year ahead of me, then quit shortly after his first clinical rotation -- which was probably at Parkland, the big public hospital in Dallas. I'm also an IT refugee, but I've stuck with it and like it. I was a nurse-aide in a nursing home for 1.5 years, so nothing rattles me now...
